ANOTHER REBUFF?
FOB ALLIANCE OF LABOUR. ATTITUDE OF PARLIAMENTARY PARTY. By Telegraph—Pres* Aaaodatlon. WELLINGTON, April 7. In connection with the attitude of the National Council of the Alliance of Labour towards the Committee appointed by the Government to report upon the Workers’ Compensation Act, the following statement was to-day made by Mr P. Fraser, M.P., secretary of the Parliamentary Labour Party:— “In view of the fact that some conjecture and comment have been caused as to what effect the recent pronouncement by the Alliance of Labour in regard to the Government will have on the attitude of the Labour Party in Parliament, I wish to make it perfectly clear that while the Labour Party in Parliament will always give expressed opinions of Trade Union organisations the consideration they certainly are entitled to, the only body competent to decide the policy of Labour is its annual conference, on which affiliation Trade Unions are represented. The method of putting that policy into operation in the House of Representatives is a matter for the judgment and decision of Labour Members of Parliament.”
