FORTY-FIVE SECTIONS FOR BALLOT. by Telegraph—Pres* A«*oriatlon. NELSON, March 17. In an interview with the "Mail” reporter to-day, the Hon. G. W. Forbes (Minister of the Lands), stated that, in ! pursuance of the Government's policy of closer settlement, his Department had at present forty-five sections of improved land which would be disposed of by ballot in the near future. These included the Wilden Settlement, near Edievale, Southland, comprising eleven sections of grazing and mixed farming land, which would be opened on the 31st instant. There was also the Roseberry Settlement, Oamaru, comprising nine sections of dairying and agricultural land, which would be opened on the 7th proximo.; the Tapanui Settlement (Otago) of nine sections, to be opened on the Ist proximo.; and the duties Settlement (Morven), of eight sections of mixed farming land, to be opened on the 7th prox. ‘‘ln addition to these activities,” said the Minister, “my Department is offering for selection a large number of unimproved Crown sections, with respect to which liberal advances will be made to selectors to enable them to carry out necessary improvements, as provided in the legislation of last session.” The Advisory Committees appointed under the Act were actively engaged in the field, and additional sections would be offered as their reports came to hand.
