IN QUEST OF THE “ ASHES.”

Australian Team Departs. ENTHUSIASTIC FAREWELL. (United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright.) (Received March 17, 9.54 p.m.) MELBOURNE, March 17. The Victorian Cricket Association farewelled the Australian team for England. There were enthusiastic scenes. The manager (Mr W. L. Kelly) remarked that the first test in England was the thirteenth match of the tour. “Nobody in the team is superstitious,” he said, “but it looks as though somebody is going to have bad luck. It would seem to me that Australia is going to have a great start.”

The whole team, which is in excellent health, left for the overland journey by the trans-Continental train.
