LEAGUE OF NATIONS UNION.
TIMARU BRANCH. A meeting of the Council of the League of Nations Union (Timaru branch) was held in Chalmers classroom on Thursday. There were present—Rev. P. G. Hughes (president), Mrs B. Low, Mrs C. E. Shallcrass, Messrs A. Inglis. A. C. Murray, J. Stewart, and C. I. Shirtcliffe (hon. secretary). An apology was received from Mr G. T. Koller. Correspondence was received from Sir Joseph Ward, Mrs Evans (the Dominion Secretary for New Zealand), and Mr E. J. Riches, who is on furlough from the Secretariat, Geneva. Mr Riches consented to give a lecture to the Timaru members early in April. Arrangements were made for a lecture by Miss Yukia Himura, from Tokio, Japan. The lady is coming to Timaru under the auspices of the Y.W.C.A. in the interests of world fellowship. The hon. secretary reported a membership of 270. Council members expressed the hope that the membership would reach 300 before the„ Dominion Conference, which is to be held in Timaru in May next.
