NEW ZEALAND AMATETUR CHAMPIONSHIPS. EVANS AND GOLDING STAR. By Telegraph—Press Association. WANQANUI. March 16. In fine weather yesterday afternoon the fortieth annual championship meeting of the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association was continued in Cook’s Gardens, and was concluded last night. The attendance in the afternoon was over two thousand, while in the evening it was about double that number. R. A. Rose, who was suffering from leg injuries, did not compete, in accordance with medical advice. D. Evans (Taihape) won the mile amid a scene of great enthusiasm. His time was nearly seven seconds better than standard. That was the second title to the credit of Evans, for in the afternoon he ran home ten yards ahead of Suckling in the half mile, in only one-fifth of a second outside the best New Zealand amateur performance. Grose monopolised the cycle races, and secured all three titles. G. Golding (the Australian; showed great sportsmanship in the 220 and 440 championships, in taking the outside lane and making all his own running. Results of championship events were as follows:

PUTTING SHOT.—P. Munro (Wellington), 43ft. lin, 1; E. G. Sutherland (Wellington), 34ft siin, 2; L. Hunt (Wanganui-Taranaki), 33ft siin, 3. ONE MILE CYCLE.—FinaI: F. J. Grose (Canterbury), 1; T. O’Erien (Canterbury), 2; L. Pearce (Wellington), 3. Won by a narrow margin, with Pearce close up. Tirne, 2min. 7 3-ssec.

120 YARDS HURDLES.—FinaI: F. Ramson (Wellington) 1, L. A. Newall (Wanganui-Taranaki) 2. F. C. Gilmour (Wanganui-Taranaki) 3. Also started —G. McGregor (Canterbury) who fell. Ramson led all the way and won by a foot, with Gilmour two yards away. Time, 16sec.

HOP, STEP AND JUMP.—G. Sullivan (Wanganui-Taranaki), 47ft. 4in, 1; R. O. Johnson (Otago), 46ft. 2; D. Parata (Wellington), 44ft. lOin, 3. Sullivan was only Sin. short of the New Zealand record.

100 YARDS, LADIES.—FinaI: Miss T. Kench (Wellington), 1; Miss E. Martyn (Canterbury). 2; Miss N. Wilson (Wellington), 3. Won by six inches, with Miss Wilson nine inches away. Pickering (Wellington), 3; O. C. Harley (Canterbury) 4. Won by four yards, with Fleming 3* yards in front of Pickering. Time, 49 2-ssec. HALF-MILE CYCLE.—FinaI: F. J. Grose (Canterbury), 1; P. Pearce (Wellington), 2; T. O’Brien (Canterbury), 3. Won by a length and a half, with O’Brien two lengths back. Time, 64 3-ssec.

ONE MILE.—D. Evans (WenganuiTaranaki) 1, G. Bayne (Wellington) 2, C. Gibbons (Wanganui-Taranaki) 3. Also started —J. G. Barnes (Canterbury), H. McDonald (Wellington), F. Silver (Wellington), J. W. Savidan (Auckland), J. Lovelock (Otago). Silver made the pace for a lap and then retired. McDonald showed the way at the end of half a mile to Lovelock and Bayne. The last-named was in front after going three parts of the distance, with Savidan and Barnes next, but entering on the final section Savidan and Lovelock were just ahead of Bayne, with Evans still -well back. Evans commenced his run down the back stretch, and worked his way to the front by the time the turn for home was reached, coming on to win by three yards from Bayne, who was six yards ahead of Gibbons. Lovelock was two yards away, ahead of Savidan, and McDonald. Time, 4min. 23 2-ssec. THREE MILE .CYCLE —FinaI: F. J. Grose (Canterbury), 1; T. O’Brien (Canterbury), 2; L. Pearce (Welling-
