TEMUKA TOWN AND COUNTRY ASSOCIATION. ORARI BRIDGE v. WINCHESTER. Playing in the final for the Shield on Thursday, the Winchester team defeated the Orari Bridge Club. At the close of the match Miss McLean, captain of the visiting team, thanked the Winchester Club for their hospitality, and the enjoyable tennis they had provided. She heartily congratulated the Winchester team upon winning the Shield without suffering defeat, a most meritorious performance. The Bridge Club, although not winning a match, had greatly enjoyed the competition, and felt that it had j improved their play and added to their circle of friends. Replying, Mr J. L. White warmly commended the Bridge team upon their plucky effort throughout the competitions. Every club had benefitted in play, and like the Orari Bridge Club had benefitted also socially. JUNIOR CHAMPIONSHIPS. The South Canterbury junior tennis championships were commenced on Saturday morning in ideal weather. The entries this year were exceptionally large, particularly in the girls’ section, and it was impossible to complete the championships in the time available. In both the boys’ and gilds’ singles, some fine tennis was witnessed, play being well up to the standard of former years. The championships will be continued on Saturday next.
