DAYTIME COATS,
SEASON’S MODELS ARE INTERESTING. Daytime coats are very interesting this year and particularly ih their colours. For, while white is the most important daytime colour, the allwhite coat is only occasionally successful. Much smarter with a white dress are such coats as a short unlined model of white crepe embroidered all over with tiny yellow crosses. A lovely woven material combining white threads with others in palest grey was used for another successful coat, and another white costume was completed by a coat of jade-green velveteen, while a jacket of yellow suede was worn with a third. Velveteen coats, also, are much in evidence, while a creamy tweed coat with a tawny fox collar combines well either with while or pale shades, and biscuit colour, oyster-white, and similar shades are used in other models. Almost all of the new coats are straight and slim in feeling, although fulness or flares are sometimes used with such skill that they give no suggestion of added bulk. There is great variety in cut. There are long coats, coats of three-quarters length, sleeveless coats, and cardigans, in every conceivable weight and material, for every costume must have some wrap that harmonises perfectly. A particularly smart type is like an enlarged cardigan. Few coats for daytime are trimmed with fur, although there are some smart exceptions. Crepe and chiffon are the outstanding fabrics for afternoon costumes and are used for dresses with a definite feeling of elaboration, as well as for simpler dresses. These dresses form a perfect costume for afternoon tea or luncheons.
