LOOK TO THE LAMPS.
Light and sight are close relatives. To some extent it is correct to say—look after your light, and sight will look after itself. There are certain elementary principles of good lighting which are more honoured in the breach than in the observance. Never allow an unshaded light in the held of vision. This, causes glare, which results in restlessness, not to mention eye strain headaches. Do not arrange any light so that it can be reflected from a shiny surface into the eyes of people in the room. This indirect glare is the cause of much mischief to eye-sight. Always have a good general diffused light to supplement table or stand lamps. Otherwise the excessive contrast between the small area of bright light and the surrounding gloom is most trying. It is repeated on a smaller scale by sensation suffered after a pair of bright motor headlight have passed you while walking along the dark road. TO HOUSE YOUR HATS. Useful and dainty collapsible hat cupboards are quite easy to make at home. Ycu can make yours square or round. Cut out three pieces of cardboard, and use some strong corded ribbon, or webbing, and glue these to your cardboard but not all round. Leave an opening large enough for your hats to go through. Cover with cretonne, and stitch it round the sides of the top and bottom pieces of board, but leave one side loose. Add a strong hook to the top, and it will hang anywhere in your bed-room and keep your hats free from dust. When travelling this hat cupboard is easily packed, because it can be folded up.
BUN MAKING. When baking buns or .small cakes in a gas oven, sprinkle the tins with ground rice instead of grease. They will be much less likely to burn.
