Pope’s Lenten Message.
ATTITUDE OF CHILDREN DEPRECATED. (United Press Association— By Glectrlt Telegraph—Copyright. f (Received March 5. 7.30 p.m.) ROME. March 4. The Pope, addressing a Lenten message to Preachers, emphasised the present day lack of parental authority. His Holiness deprecated the attitude children now adopt to their parents, w T hom they describe as “cumbersome bodies.” Girls exchange invitations of visits, containing the words, “come without baggage.” meaning without parents. Children regard their parents as know nothings, and daughters are allowed to go where they like, and W’ith whom they like, at any hour The Pope adds that he has often heard small children call their father “stupid,” and tell their parents that “they do not understand anything.” The Pope concludes: The evil consists in the abdication of any duty of surveillance by parents over their sons and daughters, and he made it clear that in his opinion, the w’orst offenders are those overseas, in England and in America.
