America’s Big Problem,
HIGHER PROTECTION DESIRED. (United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright.) (Received March 5, 11.30 p.m.) WASHINGTON, March 5. “Three million unemployed make a huge unemployment problem in the United States,” said Mr Davis (Secretary for Labour), accusing the Senate of delaying the tariff measure which would improve conditions in the United States.
AUSTRALIA’S DIFFICULT DAYS. LIVING IN FOOL’S PARADISE. (United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright.) (Received March 5, 11.30 p.m.) SYDNEY, March 5. Sir Henry Braddon, addressing the Conference of the Institute of Engineers, said that Australia, in the past twenty years, had erected a fool’s paradise, built like a child’s house of cards. He recommended that Australia should borrow less, abolish compulsory arbitration, reduce production costs, revise and abolish non-productive customs duties, practice personal and public economy, and work hard.
