BOXING
“WELLINGTON v. THE REST.” By Telegraph—Press Association. DUNEDIN, March 5. At the annual meeting of the Otago Boxing Association, the chairman said the New Zealand Council had now reduced the maximum purse to £l5O, which was an absolute burlesque, considering the drawing power of some men. It would be far better to make a limit by which Associations would abide. The Association had discussed the matter of purses several times, and had arrived at the opinion that a percentage purse was the best system to adopt. The constitution of the Council had given grounds for complaint, it now being a case of Wellington v. the rest. The Association felt that the headquarters of the Council should be shifted each year to the centre in which the New Zea- j land championships were held. No j particular city had a right to elect ! members for the Council, and it was ; felt that the Association was not get- ! ting a fair deal from the Wellington people.
