WELLINGTON CHAMPIONSHIPS. MUNRO BREAKS RECORD. By Telegraph—Pres? Association. WELLINGTON, February 22. The Wellington provincial amateur athl Lc championships were held on Saturday afternoon at Petone, under weather conditions which were for the most part favourable. Although beaten in the mile, Savidan strolled home an easy winner in the three mile event. In the mile event Randolph Rose took part. He will meet Lermond here next Saturday at the Basin Reserve. Rose did not exert himself very much at the provincial meeting, finishing with the first bunch. Miss N. OVERSEAS CRACKS WIN AT ' DUNEDIN. j NO TIMES TELEGRAPHED. By Telegraph—Press Aimociatlon. DUNEDIN, February 22. An Amateur Athletic Carnival at the Caledonian Ground was witnessed by 3000 people. A strong wind blew across the ground. In a mile scratch race, L. Lermond (America), had no trouble in gaining victory. He came up in the last lap with a magnificent stride and won from J. G. Barnes, with Morris third. Golding (Australia), won the 440 yards event easily, with McLachlan second and Price third. In a one mile relay race, the competitors were six local club teams and an international team (Barnes, Lermond, Golding, Brownlie). The event was won by Leith Club, with Anglican second. The contest was not interesting, as the visitors were forced to give away a great handicap. In the hop, step and jump handicap, R. O. Johnson made an Otago record of 45ft Biin. VISITING ATHLETES.
