SUVA SWEPT BY WHIRLWIND.
GALE EXCEEDS HUNDRED MILES HOURLY. (United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright.) (Received February 23, at midnight) SUVA, February 23. A whirlwind from the north-east of Suva, at 5.30 p.m. yesterday, swept along the waterfront at 120 miles an hour. The chief damage was at Terry and Son, boatbuilders, and public works. A man and a boy suffered slight injuries. The schooner Helena, belonging to Messrs Terry and Son, on the slip for repairs suffered in the recent hurricane, was lifted up sft. and landed clear of the slip at an angle of 45 degrees. Small craft were thrown 50 yards. It is estimated that the damage to the Shell oil stores lyill be £4OO. W. C. Mady (45 years of age), third engineer on the Makatea, was found drowned in Nabukulou Creek, in the centre of the town this evening. Deceased came from Scotland and Sydney. An inquest will probably be held on Tuesday.
