NEGLIGENT DRIVING.
WANGANUI MOTORIST CONVICTED.
By Telegraph—Press Association. WANGANUI, February 19. A verdict of guilty was returned by a jury at the Supreme Court to-day, when George Mason Glenn was charged with negligently driving a motorcar, thereby causing the death of Michael Connelly and Alma Joyce Crothers. The case was the outcome of a collision at an intersection in Wanganui on January 25th. Glenn estimated his speed at 25 to 30 miles an hour, and v admitted having been previously convicted of exceeding the speed limit. His Honour, summing up, said the jury had to answer the question: Was it negligence for accused to drive up to the intersection at the pace he admitted doing? It had been said that the other car ran into Glenn’s, but even if this had been the case, it would make no difference. The jury, after four hours’ retirement, returned with a verdict of guilty, adding a strong recommendation for mercy. Accused was remanded for sentence.
