CYCLING.

ALLEGED QUESTIONABLE TACTICS. PLACINGS REVERSED. v - r By Telegraph —Press Association. CHRISTCHURCH, February 19. This evening the North Canterbury Centre of the New Zealand Athletic and Cycling Union met to enquire into allegations of questionable tactics in the ten-mile Australasian Cycling championship, recently decided in Christchurch when the place-getters were P. O’L -a (first), W. T. Weir (second) and L. W. Hill (third). The three above mentioned competitors, with S. A. Jordan, were called upon to attend at the inquiry, whilst Jordan also called upon J. Henderson to support his statements. The charges were that Hill was riding in the interests of O’Shea, and that in attempting to further his arrangement with O’Shea he had ridden wide, interfering with Jordan and allowing O’Shea through on the inside. The second charge was against O’Shea, who it was alleged, when entering the straight had deliberately run wide interfering with Weir, who otherwise would have almost certainly have won the race. When the evidence of the five competitors had been heard, Mr S. D. Kershaw moved that the placings should be changed to Weir 1, Jordan 2, Henderson 3; and that Hill should be fined £l, and O’Shea disqualified for six months. An amendment was carried to the effect that the placing should be altered to Weir 1, O’Shea 2 and Jordan 3, and that no further penalties should be inflicted upon the competitors.
