SOCIAL NOTES.
Miss Mary Inman, Cattle Valley, is the guest of Mrs Bennett, Dunedin. Mrs A. Piddington, Irvine Street, has returned from a visit to Dunedin. Miss Sheila Vincent, Kingsdown, is on a visit to the North Island. Mr M. H. Richards, with his wife and daughter, is visiting Auckland for a few weeks. Mrs J. Greenfield, Dunedin, is the guest of Mrs W. E. Barker, Peel Forest. Miss Marion Hay, who has taken a flat in Hampton House, Le Cren's Terrace, has returned from a visit to her sister, Mrs F. Smith, Temuka. Mrs McMeekin, Wai-iti Road, returned on Monday from a short visit to Christchurch. Mrs W. Howell, Cave, who has been spending a few days at Geraldine, will return home to-day. Miss Marjorie Manchester, Waimate, is the guest of Mrs Daly Davies, Orbell Street. Miss Moorhouse, who was the guest of Mrs J. Peter, Geraldine, returned home on Saturday. Mrs Hamilton, Palmerston North, is the guest of Mrs G. J. Wallace, Albert Street. Miss Joyce Edgar-Jones. Otiritiri, has returned from a visit to Mrs Huyshe-Elliott, Roxburgh. Mr and Mrs Peter Mac Lean, Wai-iti Road, have returned from a trip to the Southern Lakes. Mr and Mrs F. H. Hess, of Washington, United States, are staying at the Grosvenor. Miss Phyllis Pigott, who is on a visit to Mrs P. B. Hume, Christchurch, will leave to-day for Hanmer Springs. Mr and Mrs J. Peter, Geraldine, and Mrs F. Haine, Timaru, who have been on a visit to Kaikoura, are expected home to-day. Mrs W. Jeffries and son, of Waverley, North Island, are visiting Mrs Jeffries’s parents, Mr and Mrs John Sullivan, Albury. Mrs Vogel and Miss Macdonald, England, who were the guests of Mrs A. D. Bell, Shag Valley, have left for Wellington. Miss Nan Cossins, “Ardnaquere,” Wai-iti Road, who has been staying with Mrs Russell Ritchie, Dunedin, will return to-day, accompanied by Miss Joan Ritchie. Mr and Mrs George Ellison, Melbourne, who have been staying with Mrs Watson Shennan, Dunedin, arrived in Timaru yesterday on their way to the Hermitage. Mr and Mrs Walter Weston, New Plymouth, visitors to Timaru for the Press Conference, will arrive tomorrow to stay with Mrs W. H. Walton, Park Lane. Among the society women noted for fishing are Lady Anne Hunloke, the Duke of Devonshire’s newly-married daughter, who received a case of flies and fishing tackle among her wedding presents, and Lady Cranbrook. Lady Anne has done most of her fishing at Lismore, the Duke of Devonshire's Irish seat. Colonel H. F. N. Jourdain, formerly of the Connaught Rangers, and Mrs Jourdain, are on a holiday visit to New Zealand. They arrived at Auckland, and ca’-'e on to Wellington via the Wanganui river and Chateau I Tongariro. After spending a few days jin Wellington, they will spend a month in the South Island. Among visitors to Christchurch for the medical conference this week are many Fellows of the College of Surgeons, some of whom are accompanied by their wives. The visiting ladies were entertained at dinner at Ballantyne’s, and afterwards a number attended a picture party, while others were the guests of Mrs John Guthrie, at an enjoyable bridge party.
