Mr R. H. Parten, of Sydney, is at present visiting Timaru. Mr F. W. Avery, of Melbourne, arrived in Timaru yesterdy. Mr S. Barratt, of Christchurch, is on a visit to Timaru. Mr LjCA. Waters returned to Timaru from the north yesterday. Mr A. J. Larnder, assistant engineer to the South Canterbury Pow r er Board, left on Monday to spend his annual leave in Wellington. Mr and Mrs R. Nairn, of Christchurch, have consented to act as judges of the cut flow’er and decorative sections respectively at the Timaru Floral Societies autumn show. The Director-General of Health wrote to yesterday’s meeting of the South Canterbury Hospital Board, approving of the appointment of Doctors Andrew and McCaskill as house surgeons at Timaru Hospital. In the list for New Zealand in the State Maternity Nurses examination, Nurse Pryor, of Timaru Hospital, was placed at the head. At yesterday’s meeting of the South Canterbury Hospital Board. Nurse Pryor congratulated on her success, and it was decided to present her with a text book suitably inscribed. The chairman of the South Canterbury Hospital Board (Mr E. Macdonald) at yesterday’s meeting of the Board made reference to the death of Mr F. A. Raymond. Mr Raymond, he said, was a man who had taken an active and very intelligent interest In public affairs. Mrs F. A. Raymond had been a member of the Board for some years, and . the sympathy of members would go out to Mrs Raymond and family. A motion to this effect was carried in silence.
