Dunbar, of Ureiiui, disappeared at 8 p.m. on Saturday. Search parties were out all Saturday night. At daylight they found footsteps cn the river bank. Downing and wife and three children, aged 16, 9 and 5 years, had a narrow escape from drowning in the Manawatu River yesterday afternoon. They were rowing in a flat-bottomed boat, when one of the oars broke. The boat drifted on to a submerged snag and filled rapidly. The occupants scrambled on to the snag, being Anally rescued by means of a rope and raft, Mrs Downing was in the water for tw'* hours before being safely landed on the bank. DEATH FROM BURNS. By Telegraph—Press Association. CHRISTCHURCH, February 3. David Jarman, aged S years, son of a Hororata farmer, died to-day as a result of burns received from a benzine explosion.

CAR PLUNGES OVER BANK. By Telegraph—Press Association. WAIPUKURAU. February 3. A serious motor accident occurred on the Pulceora Sanatorium Hill yesterday afternoon. A car driven by Mr J. J. Mansfield, a wool sliper. Palmerston North, containing his wife, three children and a niece, proceeding from Palmerston North to Napier, plunged over a 30 foot bank, owing to the steering rod breaking. Mrs Mansfield was thrown through the windscreen, sustaining extensive cuts, abrasions and shock. A daughter, badly crushed about the chest and body was admitted to the Waipiiku'an Hospital in a serious condition. The other occupants are suffering from bruises and shock.
