TEMUKA.
CHURCH PARADE. Headed by the Municipal Band, Lily of Temuka, U.A.O.D. Lodge marched to the Methodist Church on Sunday, 1 and attended the morning service. Prior to preaching an impressive sermon, the Rev. A. Blakemore extended a welcome to the members of the Order. PERSONAL. Mr A. E. Lawrence has been appointed assistant stationmaster at the Temuka railway station, and will commence duties to-day. Mr Charles Robinson, of Christchurch, was in Temuka during the week-end. MOTOR ACCIDENT. One car tryiag to pass another whilst negotiating a bend in the road, was the cause of an accident on Sunday, which fortunately was unattended by any serious results. The two vehicles, a car and a one-ton truck, were travelling in a southerly direction along the Main North Road, just north of Temuka, where the road takes a slight turn to the right. At this point, it is said, the car tried to pass the truck, but struck some loose shingle, with the result that the truck was forced on to the rough grass on the side of the road, where the front wheel crumpled up. BOWLING. The following will represent the Temuka A., v. Kia Toa, at Timaru, to-night:—Chapman and Smith (s); Roberts and Hunt (s); Fraser and Scrimshaw (s); Levens and Harvey (s). (Cars leave Temuka at 5.30 p.m.). The following will represent B. section, v. Kia Toa, at Temuka:—Hope and McLeod (s); Joynt and Dr. Mclnnes (s); Connolly and McCallum is); Marshall and Edwards (s). The second round of the Club champion singles will be played on Thursday. TENDER ACCEPTED. At a meeting V night of officebearers of the 'i ka Presbyterian Church, the tendex u i Mr A. Kennedy, Timaru, for the erection of a Bible Class room in brick, was accepted, the amount being £879. Eleven tenders were received, and the estimate for the work by the architects (Messrs Turnbull and Rule) was £9OO. TAKING A CHANCE.
A hard-riding cowboy, who swears vengeance on the girl he loves, is an unusual angle in Fox Films’ latest Western thriller, featuring Rex Bell, to be screened at Temuka to-night. Rex’s pard, an old missionary, is under suspicion as the famous lone bandit. “The Locust,” and to free his friend, Rex promises to capture the terror of the hills either dead or alive. He shoots at “The Locust,” but misses. Then he follows his mysterious trail, night after night, on his mission of vengeance, and finally tracks “him” down, only to find it is the girl he loved. Lola Todd and Richard Carlyle appear opposite the star. Entertaining short subjects will be screened.
