PRESENTATION. About 10 years ago the Canterbury Farmers’ Co-operative Association extended their activities at Temuka, and appointed as branch manager Mr J. B. Sinclair, who at that time was assist-ant-manager at Waimate. Under Mr Sinclair’s guidance, the business grew, evidence of which is seen in the extension of the buildings which the Association has found it necessary to make. Mr Sinclair has now been promoted to the position of manager of the Waimate branch.

To show their appreciation of Mr .Sinclair, the staff met him at the close of business on Saturday evening, when many complimentary remarks were made by various speakers. Mr W. E. Boys, accountant of the branch, who presided, presented Mr Sinclair with a silver tea service, suitably inscribed, and in doing so, referred to Mr Sinclair’s many good qualities as an employer and as a manager. Mr Sinclair was largely responsible for the great progress of the branch. Apart from his outstanding business ability, Mr Sinclair’s geniality and obliging disposition in private and social life were appreciated by everyone with whom he came into contact. They regretted his departure, but they were all proud of the promotion that had come his way. (Applause).

Misses M. Dwan, E. Levens (office staff), and Messrs C. De Joux (hardware department), T. Adams, W. G. Scarlet, P. Histen and P. Robinson (grocery department), R. Ward (transport), T. McCone (cashier), added their tribute to Mr Sinclair’s many good qualities. Speaking in reply* Mr Sinclair said that it did not require a presentation to remind him of the fine staff that he was leaving, and of the pleasant time he had spent with them. He disclaimed that all the credit for the progress the branch had made was due to one man. In order to succeed, he must have the support of all the members of the staff, and he could honestly say that this had been the c&se so far as the Temuka branch was concerned. He had found members of the staff most agreeable to work with, and he predicted that Mr May, his successor, would find that, so far as this was concerned, he need have no misgivings. He was sorry to leave them, but would always entertain pleasant memories of the Temuka branch, no matter where he might be. (Applause). Mr F. C. May, Mr Sinclair’s successor, was suitably welcomed by several speakers, who predicted for him a pleasant stay in the town and promised him all the support that was within their power to give him. Mr May said that from what he had already seen of Temuka and Temuka people, he had no fear but what his sojourn there would be of a very pleasant nature, and that the Association’s business would prosper, if loyalty counted for anything.

PERSONAL. Mr and Mrs J. Andrews and family, of Birkett Street, who have been spending a holiday in Dunedin, returned home yesterday.

Mrs Furneaux Smith and Mrs C. Smith, left Temuka yesterday for Cromwell, to attend the sixty-fifth anniversary of the school here. Mr A. G. Green has been appointed assistant master at the Temuka District High School, vice Mr J. Worthington, resigned.
