POLAR TRAVEL.

GOULD PARTY RETURNS TO CAMP. LONG JOURNEY NEGOTIATED. (By Russell Owen—Copyrighted 1928. by “ New York Times ” Company, and “ St. Louis "Post-Despatch.”) BAY OF WHALES, January 20. “Over the southern hills of the Barrier this morning appeared a long black line, moving slowly toward the camp. It was Professor Gould’s geological party, returning from a sledging journey of 1500 miles. That is only a little less than the distance from here to the pole and back, and is one of the longest ever made in the Antarctic.

The bearded travellers were given a wonderful reception.
