IN HOSPITAL ACCOMMODATION FOR NAVY. By Telegraph—Press Association. AUCKLAND, January 21. The Auckland Hospital Board’s decision not to provide private accommodation for officers of the Royal Navy was reaffirmed at a meeting to-day.
A letter was received from the Director-General of Health (Dr T. H. A. Valintine) stating that the Nav> was prepared to pay increased fees for private accommodation, as it was not in the interests of discipline to have omoo' c and men in the same hospital
quarters. -—■ iMo question of payment need enter into the matter,” said Mr M. J. Savage M.P. ‘ It is just a question of a public institution where everyone is entitled to equal treatment. By providing private accommodation we would oe establishing a precedent, and there no reason why we should alter our pre\ious decision on the matter.”
The chairman (Mr W. Wallace) said that the Wellington Hospital Board had refused to grant private accommodation.
It was resolved to write to the Direc-tor-General saying that the matter could not be reconsidered.
