PLANT EATING PESTS
EFFECTIVE POISON BAIT. An excellent bait which can be made very easily and is effective against slaters, locusts, and other plant-eating pests consists of lib. Paqs green, 31b. treacle, and one bushel bran. Boil the Paris green in one gallon of water; pour the treacle into the boiling mixture, and stir well; then take it off the fire. Damp the bran with a little water, add it to the mixture, and stir well until all the ingredients are thoroughly distributed. Arsenate of lead, 21b., may be used instead of Paris green. This quantity is sufficient for one acre. It -should be broadcast thinly in fine weather, and should rain interfere with its action the application must be repeated. For gardens and small cultivations the proportion of constituents can remain the same while the quantities are reduced. The bait can be placed under cabbage leaves or pieces of board, where it will remain effective for quite a long time.
