TO WATERSIDERS’ UNION. By Telegraph—Pr«« Association. CHRISTCHURCH. December 18. An order was made by Mr Justice Adams in the Supreme Court this i morning for the issue of a writ, cf mandamus, directing the Lyttelton Waterside Workers’ Union to recognise EdI ward Giliard as member of the Union, j and to enrol him as a member of the | Union. A claim for £SO damages was made by Giliard for loss of work owing to his disqualification. The case was one of importance to Unions especially Waterside Unions. Giliard claimed. that he applied for 1 membership of the Union on September 15. 1928. His name was entered on the list of applicants for membership, but he was not elected. Giliard claimed that he had unlawfully excluded from membership, and had in consequence been debarred from ootaining work. For the defence, it was alleged that membership of the Union had been limited to 700 under an agreement. In his judgment. His Honour said no e\ .0. ace had been before him to prove :::: . rocment limiting the membership oi the Union.
