GERALDINE

ODDFELLOWS. The ordinary meeting of Victoria Lodge, No. 18, Geraldine, was presided over by Bro. D. J. Lack, N.G., there being a good attendance, which included Bro. H. Evans, D.D.G.M. Two new members were accepted and four were initiated. Three members were reported on the sick list, and one was declared off the sick funds. Accounts and sick pay for £5 were passed for payment.

An invitation was received and accepted from the Alexandrovna Lodge to perform an initiation ceremony in connection with the Lodge, and an invitation from the Waihi Rebekah Lodge to a social evening, was accepted. It was decided that the next ordinary meeting would be the quarterly one.

PLUNKET SOCIETY. The monthly meeting of the Geraldine Plunket Society was held on Wednesday, Mrs J. M. H. Tripp presiding. The Plunket Nurse (Nurse Rogerson) reported that since the previous meeting she had visited 230 homes, there had been 233 visits to the Plunket rooms, five babies had been born, and the car had travelled 734 miles. The holding of a Plunket Day was discussed, and it was decided to arrange for a suitable date in January. CROQUET. On Wednesday a B grade flag match was played at Ashburton, between the Geraldine and Ashburton Clubs. The following are the results (Geraldine players being mentioned first):— Doubles. Mrs McKenzie and Mrs Kirk 26, v. Mrs Gabites and J. E. Carter 23; W. Kirk and Mrs Hayes 26, v. Mrs Heenan and Miss Galbraith 24; Mrs Broad and Mi’s Rule 26, v. Mrs McEachen and Mrs J. Lane 20. Singles. Mrs McKenzie 16, v. Mrs Gabites 26; Mrs Kirk 26, v. J. E, Carter 18; W. Kirk 26, v. Mrs Heenan 20; Mrs Hayes 26, v. Miss Galbraith 9; Mrs Broad 23, v. Mrs McEachen 26; Mrs Rule 19, v. Mrs Lane 26. Totals—Geraldine 6, Ashburton 3. THE WEATHER. The rainfall at Mr M. G. Williams’s observatory, Geraldine powns, for November, amounted to 1.59 inches. Rain fell on nine days, the heaviest fall occurring on the sth, when 40 points were recorded. The rainfall this year up to the end of November has amounted to 29.31 inches, in comparison with 25.24 inches up to the same date last year. Last December, however, proved a very wet month 7.73 inches being recorded, and the 1928 total reached 32.97 inches.
