DOMAIN BOARD.

At the Domain Board meeting there were present:—The Mayor (Mr T. E. Gunnion), Messrs A. E. Smith, E. J. Chapman, L. F. Robins, A. W. Buzan, R. Jamieson, C. Davidson and A. R. Meek. The Baptist Union, Christchurch, was granted permission to use the Domain for an Easter camp. The Mayor said that the Mayor of Christchurch was a prominent member, and he had sent an invitation to him and the Mayoress to visit Temuka. Mr Archer made a promise to visit Temuka. Other organisations that were granted permission to use the Domain were the Timaru Catholic Schools (December 7), and the Timaru Methodists (December 12). The Caledonian Society were granted permission to charge for admission to the Domain on Boxing Day. The monthly report of the curator (Mr A. E. Uden), detailing the work of the month, was received. The chief item of interest, which was appreciably commented upon, was the condition of the gardens. Upwards of 5000 flowering plants of various varieties had been planted out, and the healthy appearance of such a large number raised in primitive frames, but taken charge of by Mr Uden too late in the season to make much improvement, was commended by the chairman and members of the Board. The paysheet, amounting to £3B/10/11, was passed for payment. The chairman said that swimming in Temuka was in the ascendant. Australian swimmers were coming here, and, generally speaking, the sport was booming. He thought every encouragement should be given to the young people to learn swimming and nfe-saving. The Swimming Club had been given control of the baths, and he felt sure that it would be for the benefit of the town.

CEMETERY BOARD.

Permission was given to the sexton (Mr Double) to employ an extra hand for a fortnight, to effect the cleaning up usually done at the present season of the year. The clerk said that the Cemetery Account was in credit to the amount of £lls. The paysheet, amounting to £l2/0/6, was passed for payment.

INDECENT ASSAULT.

At the Temuka Police Court on Saturday, a man was charged with indecent assault. He was remanded to appear at Temuka on Tuesday.

PERSONAL.

Mr and Mrs Ken. Smith, who have been spending a holiday with Mr and Mrs H. Wilson, AllnUtt Street, returned to Nelson on Saturday.

FARMIING OUTLOOK.

The output in the dairy factories at the present time is coming near the peak, and farmers report that the cows have been doing remarkably well. Feed, owing to the absence of rain during the spring, has not been so abundant as it was last year, but the grass is of very good quality, and butter-fat tests at the factories are well up to the average. The prospects, so far as prices for butter and cheese are concerned, are good, and if the weather continues favourable, the season returns should be quite equal to those obtained last year. Recently the price of beef has dropped considerably, and the opening prices for lamb will not be so good as last year, but farmers of this district are confident that they will be on a fairly high level. A feature of the paddocks is the large number of shorn sheep that are to be seen. Shearing is at its height, and the work is being expedited, as the farmers’ objective is the wool sale that takes place in Timaru early in December. Farmers in this district are sanguine that heavier fleeces this season will be a set-off against lower price.
