FLOCK HOUSE

ANNUAL MEETING OF CONTROL BOARD. By Telegraph—Prea* Association. WELLINGTON, October 31. At the annual meeting of the Flock House organisation to-day, the Hon. E. Newman presided. In moving the adoption of the report and balance sheet, Mr Newman congratulated subscribers on another successful year. He regarded the aftercare of the boys and girls as really the keynote of success of the scheme. Results of farm operations during the past year had been more successful than in any previous year. He disapproved of a resolution passed by certain Labour Unions expressing the opinion that the Government should take steps to discourage bringing out British boys. He inclined to think that the boys coming out had this advantage over New Zealand boys—that they were not so wrapped up in sport, and were more prepared to take up positions in the backblocks. Mr Newman was re-elected president. Mrs Jackson, president of the Women’s Branch of the Farmers’ Union, outlined the assistance given by that organisation to young men and women brought out under the Flock House scheme, and similar remarks were made on behalf of the Y.W.C.A.
