CHAMPIONSHIP AT ADELAIDE. (United Press Association—Bj Electrle Telegraph—Copyright. 1 (Received August 27, 9.30 p.m.) ADELAIDE, August 27. Whitton and Morpeth staged a thrilling display at Seaton to-day, in ideal weather, Morpeth scoring a brilliant win. Whitton was 2 up on the morning play, Increasing his lead to 5 up in the afternoon. Morpeth responded magnificently, and at the 35th hole he was one up. At the next, he missed a short putt for a win. The pair went the third round, and the excitement was intense until the 42nd hole was halved. Here, Morpeth putting his second on the green, and Whitton going into the bunker on the right, the latter needed two putts. Morpeth holed in a par four —a spectacular hole. At the 39th hole, with a bottle-neck green between two craters, 280 yards from the tee, Morpeth played an iron and got a beauty, Whitton pulling a trifle and staying short on the sand, and thence adroitly on to the green Whitton took two putts. Morpeth had here a chance to win. His chip shot was too long, and he tipped the ball a foot from the pin, getting a half. He had a great reception. In the professional contest, Bissett beat Howard, 3 up and 2 to play. Thomson beat Spence 2 up and one to play. James beat McLachlan two up and one. Stewart beat McMahon 4 up and 3 to play.
