PLOUGHING MATCH.
TO BE HELD ON SATURDAY. RECORD ENTRIES. | The biggest entry ever received by j the Timaru Ploughing Match Commit- ; tee, for its annual fixture, has been ; received for this year’s matches, to be held on Saturday. I The secretary (Mr E. Cartwright) yesterday stated that the entries constituted a record —well above those of i previous years. Horse teams and traci tors showed a substantial increase, j while entries of car exhibits, etc., have j also increased considerably. This year the committee have de--1 cided to stage dog trials, and the en- ; tries received have exceeded any hopes 1 the committee entertained. There will I be two classes, local and open, and the I large number of entries makes it doubtful if all the dogs will be given ' their trial on the day of the match. : The trials will be held in an adjacent 1 field, and will no doubt serve as a ; means of giving further interest to the j match. Mr G. Evans, Peel Forest, wno I acts as judge to the A. and P. Associai tion, will act as judge. • Arrangements for the match are now ' completed, and the success of the fixi ture is ossured. The venue is in Mr D. Grant's property, on the road | branching in a westerly direction from i the Washdyke hotel. A flag will direct I the public to the ground. Refreshj ments will be procurable on the ground, | while provision has been made for parking of vehicles. Mr W. B. S. Jones, Totara Valley, has again donated a sheep for competition.
