Smart work on the part of Sergeant Carmody. of the Mount Cook police station, resulted in the arrest of William Edward Francis (18), about an hour after a complaint had been I lodged by a young woman that she j had been knocked down and robbed of j a bag. ; Francis appeared in the Magistrate’s i Court to-day, charged with robbing Catherine Lyons of a purse containing 1 17s, a Post Office Savings Bank book, j and other articles, at the same time | using personal violence, j In applying for a remand. Subj Inspector'Lander said the matter was I indictable on the facts shown. The j young woman was walking past the I technical school when she caught by ! accused, and thrown to the ground, | and the bag snatched from her. , A remand was granted. Bail was allowed in accused’s own bond of £IOO and two sureties of £SO each, accused to report daily to the police.
