BUS DESTROYED.

ENGINE BACKFIRES. While returning to St. Andrews from Timaru at an early hour yesterday morning. Mr I. A. McDuffs service bus caught fire and was completely gutted. It is understood that the bus, which operated daily between St. Andrews and Timaru, had been to Oamaru on Saturday with a party of footballers, who returned to Timaru late at night. It was on the return trip to St. Andrews that the fire broke out. The bus, which was driven by Mr Coe, was proceeding down a hill in the vicinity of Kingsdown, when the engine backfired. causing the bus to take fire. It could not be ascertained last night whether the vehicle was insured.
