CURING LOOSE NUTS.
If a worn or loose nut cannot be replaced by a well-fitting one the best course is to tin the threads with solder. The nut should be freed from all grease by placing it in a. boiling solution of washing soda, and a piece of wire tightly wrapped round the faces. It is then heated in a Bunsen burner, and solder and killed spirits applied until the solder runs freely and evenly round the thread. On cooling it should be possible to screw the nut on the bolt, the solder having taken up all the wear. FINDING PUNCTURES. Fellowlreaders may often have had difficulty in finding very small punctures. Here is a very useful little hint. Pour some powdered washing blue through the valve into the tube. Now, whenever the tube becomes punctured the hole will be clearly shown by a blue smudge, and the treatment lasts many months.
