FOOTBALL.

TO-DAY’S GAMES. Although the weather conditions changed for the worse yesterday, it was hoped that the rain would clear during the night, thus ensuring a fine afternoon for the continuation of the South Canterbury Rugby Union’s competitions. Both games set down for decision in Timaru should be productive of gocd football. On No. 1 ground, Old Boys will meet Waihi. When the teams met at Winchester in the first round, Old Boys won by 17 points to 10, which was not a very big margin. Since then, Wailii have put up some fine performances, including .the defeat of Temuka, and their presence in Timaru to-day should attract a good crowd to Fraser Park. Star and Zingari are drawn to play on No 2 ground, and this match also should be a first-class one. In the first round Zingari were the only team which succeeded in defeating Star, and then they only got home by 8 points to 6. Star are now a greatly improved side, and on this occasion they will probably succeed in turning the tables. The curtain-raiser on No. 1 ground will be a game between Star A and Star B juniors. Both these teams play outstanding football, and patrons can oe assured of a bright game. On No. 2 ground Star B and Star A fourths will try conclusions. During the season some really interesting games have been witnessed in the lower grades, and these teams have played consistently good football.
