MINIATURE RIFLES. The Pleasant Point Miniature Rifle Club’s weekly shoot held on June 3. was well attended. A trophy donated by Mr W. J. Crawford, was keenly competed for, and was eventually won by Jas. Stevenson, who holds the button for the week. The scores off the rifle were as follows:—W. Taylor 79—76; H. Roberts 78—77; Geo. Smith 60; R. Welch 60. SCHOOL COMMITTEE. The monthly meeting of the District High School Committee was attended by Mesdames Batchelor and Arnott, and Messrs W. B. Oborn (chairman), W. Halkett and G. W. Wakefield (hon. sec.) The headmaster, Mr de Montalk, 8.A., reported that the school had reopened with a good attendance. Quite a number of additions had been made i to the roll, which was steadily in- j creasing. The pupils of the secondary department had visited Geraldine District High School. The girls had played basketball, and the boys, football matches with the Geraldine pupils. The girls won by 8 to 6, but the boys were defeated by 17 to nil. Hot cocoa was now being served to 126 pupils daily, at lunch hour. Mesdames Batchelor and Arnott, as visitors, recommended that an enamel jug be procured for use in connection with the children’s cocoa, and that a broken pane of glass in one of the classroom windows be repaired. Both reports were adopted. It was agreed to hold a series of fortnightly euchre parties commencing on June 14, in aid of a fuel and cocoa fund. Mr W. B. Oborn was appointed visitor for June. Accounts amounting to £4l/18/1 were passed for payment.
