FRUIT AND JAM.
PROTECTIVE DUTY REQUESTED. By Telegraph—Press Association. AUCKLAND, June 7. The Hen. li ueore promised to bring before Cabinet strong representations made by fruit growers, jam manufacturers and fruit merchants, who asked for a protective duty to meet imports from South Africa. It was stated that growers were being stifled by the importation of jams free o f duty. The loss to Now Zealand in one see c on alone was stated to have been £7BOO.
