LABOUR’S MAIN OBJECTIVE.
Promoting World Peace. NEW ERA IN CO-OPERATION. (United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copy rlscht.) PARIS, June 5. Interviewed by the “Petit Parisien,” Mr Macdonald said he hoped immediately to get in touch with President Hoover regarding inter-Allied debts and disarmament, and resume the discussions on a new basis. He intended to go right ahead with a policy of disarmament and peace. He appealed for general co-operation in Europe to accomplish this task, and counted above all on France’s cooperation. The interviewer suggested a trilateral agreement between Great Britain, France, and Germany, to secure peace in Europe. Mr Macdonald, with an impatient gesture, said: “There Is no question of agreement or alliance. We want to start an altogether new era of European cooperation—no more rivalries, no more understandings for or against one another, no more secret diplomacy. “What we want is fresh air, light, and goodwill among the peoples. To this we shall devote our energies till we achieve a decisive and final result.” CHEERED BY REICHSTAG. VISCOUNT CECIL DISCUSSES DISARMAMENT. (United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright.) BERLIN, June 5. An audience, including Cabinet members and Foreign diplomats, loudly cheered Viscount Cecil, when he addressed the Reichstag. He emphasised that the two most important recent events in connection with disarmament were the Kellogg Pact and the British Elections, which brought in a Parliament, with an overwhelming majority, which was in favour of the League of Nations and international disarmament. He expressed the opinion that a Naval Conference, attended by Britain, Japan and America would give a tremendous impulse towards disarmament.
