WOMEN POLICE.
MINISTER FOR JUSTICE DISAPPROVES. By Telegraph—-Pres* Association. WELLINGTON, June 6. The Hon. T., M. Wilford (Minister for Justice) told a deputation of Justices of the Peace to-day that he was not in favour of women police, and while he was Minister for Justice he would never recommend their appointment. If women were to become members of the Force, they must take the oath in the same way as policemen, and be prepared to carry out all the duties which a policeman was called upon to perform. Another representation made by the Justices to Mr Wilford related to the non-employment by Government Departments of discharged prisoners, the view being advanced that they should not be punished twice. The Minister replied that for very good reasons the Justice Department did not knowingly employ convicted prisoners, and he did not think it should be done in the Police Department. He had no information about the other Departments.
