COMPETITIONS SOCIETY.
NOT A SUCCESS. By Telesrmph—Pres. Association. AUCKLAND, May 7. Mr F. Adeane, secretary of the Auckland Competitions Society, has tendered his resignation. He says he has not drawn salary for 22 months, and paid the lighting and other office expenses out of his own pocket. Half a dozen other members of the Committee helped similarly, besides guaranteeing the bank overdraft. The prizes won at last competitions had not been paid. Festivals could not be made payable the public evidently not considering the entertainment of sufficient value to justify extensive patronage.
