PERSONAL.
Mr F. S. Avent, of Timaru, is at present on a visit to Christchurch. Mr Herbert Hall left Timaru yesterday on a business visit to the North Island. Mr H. H. Sterling, General Manager of the New Zealand Railways, i* paying an official visit to Auckland. Sir .Tames Mills, who has been on a visit to New Zealand, left Auckland by the R.M.M.S. Aorangi yesterday, en route to London. At a meeting of the Timaru Presbytery yesterday, reference was made to the death of Mr A\ r . Reid, who had been an elder of Chalmers Church for some years. The Rev. A. Begg said that Mr Reid had done good service for the church, and had throw n his heart into the work. A motion of appreciation of the services of Mr ; Reid, and sympathy with Mrs RoiJ and family, was carried in silence. The Timaru Presbytery yesterday I placed on record its appreciation of the services of the late Mr AYm. ! Stewart, of Waimate. The Rev. \V. F. Nlchol said that when the late Mr j Stewart had acted as Home MissionI ary of AYaihao Downs during the war, he had commended himself to all by I his faithful pastoral work anil ablo i preaching. As an elder of Waimate he had ably supported the minister, ! willingly taking services and accepting re ponsibilitics, thus facilitating the work of the parish. A motion of sympathy with his widow’ and family was carried, ail standing in silenej.
