PRISONERS SENTENCED. r / Telegraph—Press Aasnc'aUon. DUNEDIN. March 4. The following prisoners were sentenced at the Supreme Court to-day | by Mi- Justice MacGregor:— Pearl Caroline Hislop, for abandoning her bab\\ was ordered to be detained in the Salvation Army Homo for [ 12 months. Howard William Thomas, for the theft of £'2o6 Is 6d from his employer, Henry Schneidman. His Honour said there were special circuinstances, and ordered prisoner lo come up for sentence if called on within the next two years. Doris May Adams, on three charges of breaking, entering and theft, was admitted to probation for two years. it was shown that prisoner was niar- | nod in August of last year, and had a j baby three months old. Some discusI sion took place as to what would lianI pen to the baby if tho prisoner, who j had served two previous sentences, j were sent to gaol. It appeared that no provision was ! such circumstances, and that j the baby would have to be boarded out. j His Honour said he did not like the «d against the prisoner, but Mr AC’. Hanlon pointed out that this had occurred when the girl was only thirteen Frederics Hall, a young man for forging a cheque for' £lO, was ’ sentenced to nine months’ imprisonment. *-bc- Judge said that tho prisoner was not a first offender, otherwise ho might have treated the cutio dcSprenfclv.
