MART REPORT. Morton and Ci>., Ltti., report for the week ended February 23, as follows : —* On Thursday, we held a clearing -ale for Mrs M. McGrath, High Street. A large number of buyers were in attendance,' and a very successful clearance was made. Our mart was well filled with furniture and sundries for Friday’s sale, and good prices were obtained for all lots soid. Poultry sold well, and a big entry was disposed of. Eggs were keenly sought alter, and supplies being lighter, prices advanced to Is 9d per dozen. A keen demand was experienced lor tomatoes, and although increased supplies were handled, prices remained firm at late rates. Plums were very plentiful, and prices lor all jam varieties very low. Dessert lines were more saleable, und made fair values. Freestone peaches were to hand in small quantities, and soid readily. Apricots arc now about finished, and only a few small lines were forward. Prices realised were :—Apples, Worcesters 5s 6d to B.s (3d case, Loxes Cs to 12s, cookers 3s to -Is. Pears, W.B.C. 3s (3d to os (3d, Loui lions 2s 6(1 to 3s Gd. Peaches, crates to 4.Jd per lb., cases 2d to 4£d per lb. Apricots, cases 2£d to 5d ]>er lb. Nectarines, crates 4£d per ib., cases l£d to 4d per lb. Plums, dessert l£d to 3d per lb., jam Is to 3s per case. Grapes Is Gd to Is lid per lb. Fiji bananas 28s to 28s 6d per ease. New Zealand lemons 20s per •case. American lemons to 50s per case. Passion fruit 9s to 13s per case. Hothouse tomatoes 5d to 8d per lb., outdoor tomatoes IJd to s£d per lb. Hothouse cucumbers 3d to 4d lb , outdoor cucumbers 2s Gd to 3s Gd case. Vegetable marrows 2s Gd to 4s per dozen. Cauliflowers 7s to 10s per sack. Onions to 2s per string, 3s Gd to 4s per bag. Table potatoes 3s Gd to 4s per sugar bag, Gs Gd to 8s per cental. Wheat 21s Gd sack; bran lls Gd, pollard 17s (3d: grit 7s per bag; eggs Is 9d per dozen. Poultry: —Hens, light 2s 9d to 3s 9d per paii-, cockerels 4s Gd to 6s Gd per apir, pullets to 5s per pair, ducks Vs to 8s Gd per pair. THE RIALTO. H. Allohurch and Co. report ror the week ended Saturday, February 23: At our weekly sale on Friday we had a good entry of poultry and pigs. The market price of pigs showed a slight increase compared with the previous week. Prices realised were as follows: Poultry.—Hens (heavy) 3s 3d to 4s Gd, others 2s Gd to 2s 9d, cockerels 3s 9d to ss, roosters 2s to 3s Gd, ducks (heavy) 5s 9d to Gs 3d, others 5s to 5s 3d per pair, chicks od each. Pigs:—Weaners only were yarded, and realised 9s. 9s Gd and 10s Gd each. Produce.—Wheat 16s to 20s, outs Gs 9d to 12s 6d, bacon (rolls and sides) 9d to lid per lb; honey (bulk) 5d to Gd per lb; vegetable marrows Gs to 12s per dozen; French beans 2d to 2id per it>; onions 2d per lb; cabbage 3s (3d per dozen; rhubarb 3s to Gs per dozen bundles; potatoes 2s Gd to 4s per kit. Fruit.—Christchurch and Nelson tomatoes 4d to Gd per lb ; inferior 2d to 3d per lb; poaches 2d to 3£d per lb; nectarines 2£d to 3&d per lb ; Bon Cretin n pears 2d to 3d per 11): plums Id to 2d per lb: Fiji bananas 25s to 28s per case; cooking apples os Gd to 7s per case; blackberries 3d to (3d per lb; green gages 2£d to 3£d per lb ; apricots 3d to 4d per lb. Eggs—The supply of the South Canterbury Egg Circle eggs has fallen off slightly during the week, and the demand is very keen. The price now stands at Is 7d per dozen. Household furniture and effects.- On Friday, at our rooms, we disposed of a good quantity of household lurnit.il ; and effects at satisfactory prices.
