MR A. E. REYNOLDS Far f welled. PRESENTATION BY JUSTICES’ ASSLv'I A I lON. A presentation to Air A. E. Keyno. ds, Re, ..sti ar of the Supreme Court on promotion, to Dunedin, was made ut tlie annual gathering of the South Canterbury Justices’ Association. As president oi the Association (Air A .L. Geo), expressed sincere regret at the departure oi Air Reynolds. At the same time, they offered him congratulations, and wished hnn still further success. Air Gee said lie was sure that during Ins stay in Dunedin, Air Reynolds would have the same pleasant re- ( lations with Justices, as he had had | in South Canterbury. He would like lo say how much the Association valued and appreciated the services Mr Reynolds had rendered them. His services had been appreciated more than the speaker could say. Anything they hail wanted, as Justices, Air Reynolds had been only too pleased and over ready to give. They did not profess to know everything in connection with their duties as” Justices, and Air Reynolds had always proved invaluable in giving assistance. Air Gee then asked Air Reynolds to accept, from the Association, a set ol pipes and a tobacco pouch. He hoped that every time they were used. Air ! Reynolds would think kindly of the South Canterbury Justices’ Association. (Applause). Air F. J. Rolleston expressed pleasure at being given the opportunity of being allowed to speak on such an occasion. As one whose daily work brought him into contract with the Court, lie had long since appreciated Mr Reynold's worth. The courtesy received at the Court, .and at the’ hands of Air Reynolds was typical of the courtesy .received from civil servants generally throughout' New Zealand. Referring to Air ( Reynold’s work as Returning Officer, Air Rolleston said he had something . to aav. Mr Reynolds had treated him 1 very well in 1925, but such had not j been the case in 1928. (Laughter.) : Addressing Air Reynolds, Mr Rolles- . ton said; “We in Timaru watch with interest your upward progress. AVe also wish Mrs Reynolds and family ] the best of health and prosperity in t Dunedin.” ((Applause.) j The gathering then sang “For He’s < a Jolly Good Fellow.” This was « followed by three cheers for Mr Key- « no Ids, and one for Airs Reynolds. ]

On rising to reply, Air Reynolds was greeted with applause. First, lie said he felt deeply sensible of the honour conferred upon him by the invitation to be present. He would like to believe all the good things that had been, said about him. Air Reynolds said he was grateful for Air Rolleston’s remarks concerning the members of the Civil Service. Any Justice who came in contact with Court work in Timaru, said Air Reynolds, must appreciate the. loyalty of the junior members, with whom" it had been a pleasure to work, as was also the case with the Magistrates stationed in Timaru. The public hardly realised the work done by a. Justice, work which, in many instances, was distasteful. Speaking in regard to the Association’s patron (Air Rolleston), Air Reynolds said Timaru residents would always remember him as the Minister who had appointed the first ladv Justice in New Zealand, Airs F. A. Raymond, of Timaru. (Applause). Ho was quite sure the choice was an excellent one. In conclusion, Mr Reynolds said he was sure his associations in Timaru would equal any he might have in after years. (Applause).
