CHIEF COOK ABSENT.
LINER HELD UP. By Telegraph—Press Association. WELLINGTON, March 1. The Commonwealth and Dominion liner Port Alma, which has twelve passengers and a full cargo of wool, dairy produce and frozen meat, was held up at Wellington yesterday for several hours owing to the chief cook leaving the ship when she was ready to sa i I. Her lines were “singled up,” the pdot was aboard, and th e ship ready to start on her voyage for London, when it was reported that the chief cook was missing. Lt is stated that be was seen to go ashore shortly before noon, and was driven away in a private motor car waiting on th e wharf. A substitute was soon found, and a warrant was issued for the arrest of the missing man, and after a delay of five hours the Port Alma put to sea. It is understood that the whereabouts of the missing cook is known to the police authorities
