AMATEUR ATHLETICS.
LAST EVENING’S MEETING. A successful sports meeting, under the auspices of the Timarii A.A. and C. Club, was held at the Caledonian grounds last evening. The fields were an improvement on those of the’previous meeting, and close contests were witnessed in the 220 yards and one mile handicaps. The thanks of the Club aro due to the officials who made a success of the meeting. The results were as follows: 220 YARDS HANDICAP T. O’Leary (12 yards') ... 1 J. S. Borgin (9 yards) ... 2 L. M. Graham (scr) 3 Although slow time was made in this race, due probably to crowding on the bend, a close finish was witnessed. Inches separated the first and second men, while Graham, three feet back, just got in ahead of Tubb. Tim*—2s secs. I ONE MTLE CYCLE HANDICAP:— R. Eastwood (scr) 1 H. Thomas (25 yards ) ... 2 W. Beswarick (15 yards) ... 3 The field bunched in the second and third rounds, when Cowles, followed by Eastwood, came away and led for the first half of the last lap. He then faded away, and Eastwood came on strongly into the straight, and won by inches, from Thomas, who made a thrilling finish. Beswariclc was close up third, and Riley was fourth. Time —2.21 3-5. QNE MILE HANDICAP J. Delury (120 yards) ... 1 A. Harper (10 yards) 2 J. Sutherland (100 yards) 3 Harper moved up well, hut was unable to challenge Delury, who won pulling up. by about fifteen yards. Sutherland just beat Tubb for third place. Time—4.ss 4-5. PUTTING THE SHOT : G. GatFanoy (10ft) 36ft 7*in ... 1 J. Delury (10ft) 34ft llin ... 2 L. Graham (6ft) 31ft lin 3
