ANOTHER CANAL.
SURVEY IN NICARAGUA. (United Preaa Association— By JSLttrl* T AlagrAph—f opyrigibt.) WASHINGTON, February 25. The Senate passed a resolution appropriating 150,000 dollars for surveying the proposed inter-oceanie canal through Nicaragua. On March 28 of last year Senator K. 1. M’Kellar (Democrat) introduced a Bill providing for the immediate construction of a Nicaraguan canal, to parallel the Pamumi Cana!, and to be financed by 200,000,000 dollars of thirty-year 3 per cent Government bonds. Senator M’Kellar said that toe Nicaraguan canal Mould be a paying investment, and would restore American prest ge by turning the bandits in Nicaragua into labourers. He asked for an appropriation of 10,000,000 dollars for a survey.
The right for ninety years to construct a canal through Lake Managua and the Sail Juan River, together with naval bases at the Pac : Be and Caribbean ends, was acquired for 3,000 ; UOU dollars by the United States in a treatv made in 1916. The United States intervened In po.|it : oal disputes in Nicaragua in 1926. and Inst venr Amercnn mariners were fighting the rebels led by General Sandmo. ,
