WELLINGTON, June 27. , A letter trom tlie Meat Board to the executive of the New Zealand Eariners' Union, in reply to a request that a Commission should be. appointed to go mt> the question of reducing costs, and generally overhauling the industry, was received today, indicating that the Board is constantly engaged in the most ctomifrehensive investigations _in connection with the industry, including research. Th© meeting decided to obtain information as to the bank rates in Australian and Canada. During the discussion, a delegate predicted that the bank rate here would come down with a bang just before the election.

My T.leeraph—Pr««« A.aeeUtUfc WELLINGTON. June 27. The Advisory Committee of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union met to-day, the president (Mr W. J. Poison), being in the chair. The Committee passed the following remits:— “That this conforenco strongly recommends to the Government that it be made compulsory that all dairy cattle be periodically examined and tested for T. 8., by officers of the Stock Division, and that when offered for sale; they be accompanied by a tubercular test certificate, and that for wrongfully condemned cattle, full compensation be paid.” “That this conference is of opinion that a veterinary course should he instituted at the Massey Agricultural College for the benefit of stock inspectors.” “That this Conference urges the sotting up of a committee to make full investigations into the reasons why the price of fertilisers is so much dearer in the South Island, qs against the ■ price charged in the North Island.” >

“That the Government be requested to amend the Land Act, so as to allow of the appointment of (wo representatives o( Grown band tenants to the Land Boards; also that the various land districts be divided into two wards, olio representative to be elected to each ward.” “That as the cash on delivery system confers a great benefit on farmers, it is hoped that the Government will not under pressure discontinue this system, blit' extend it through New.
