RIFLE SHOOTING.

TIMARU DEFENCE CLUB. The Timaru Defence Rifle Club held its weekly shoot on the Temuka range bn Saturday afternoon. There was a good number of riflemen present, but the conditions were difficult, the light and wind were very changeable, and the shooting at 500 was not too good. Tho principal prize of the day was the Ardmour Cup, kindly presented by Mr F. Chittock. The conditions were 10 shots at 500 and 600, including handicaps. The winner was Clarence Blackwood, the Club’s youngest shot, who only started to use the rifle 1 this year. The weekly trophy was won by Rifleman Chittock. The scores were as follows: —

CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP. The Club championship is being very keenly' contested this year. Bradshaw got in the lead from the start of the season, and looks as if he is going to keep it. • Duncan has been up to witnui one point of him, but after the 500 yard shoot tliis week ho had separated himself by 5 points. At the 600 Bradshaw got 43, and Duncan 46, reducing the difference to 2 next three are Jones, Chittock and Malcolm, who all have the same score. Next Saturday the ranges are 7 shots at 300, 500 and 600. This will finish the championship. . The present position is: .

On Saturday afternoon the late Colonel Gabites Cup will be shot lor best score off the nlle over 300, 000 and 600 yards. There will also be the CiUD trophv over the same ranges, 1 handicap. Owing to such a big shoot the members are requested to meet at Mr Blackwood’s shop sharp at J. o’clock.
