Mr Lloyd George, speaking at Stroud, said the Budget was an acknowledgment of the Government’s failure.. It was obliged, in th© fourth year of office, to confess that the conditions in all staple industries were so bad that they required schemes of assistance. The Assistant Minister of Trade and Customs states that the Imperial Budget confers the advantage of 30s per ton on Australian sugar. Australian growers will benefit to the extent of £225,000, based on the annual report of 150,000 tons of sugar. Australian sugar, under the new tariff, will be on a parity with sugar from the other Dominions, which is no* so refined as the Queensland product.
