BIG HOTEL DEMOLISHED. Bf Telegraph—Press Association. NAPIER, Jan. 30. Believed to have originated in the kitchen chimney, a fire practically demolished the Empire Hotel, a three-storeyed building of 4 0 rooms in Shakespeare Road, yesterday afternoon. Only the front premises on the ground floor were left. The firemen’s efforts were hindered by poor water supply, until a pump was brought into action.

BEER IN GUTTER. By Telegraph—Press Association. GISBORNE, Jnn. 30. A fire last evening gutted the packing and bottling department of tne New Zealand Breweries. A large stock of beer was totally ruined by bottles oaused many gallons to flow into the street.
