THE MOTOR OLYMPIA.

OPENING TO-NIGHT. After weeks of ' preparation, the South Canterbury Motor Olympia Committee are putting the finishing touches on the preparations for what they consider to be the biggest and best motor display ever staged in Timaru. They boast and rightly so, that the entries and space taken up by the stands is greater than last year, and that the enthusiasm this year is even, greater than last. The spacious wool stores of Messrs John Mill and Co., have been transformed into a brilliantly lighted, decorated and furnished interior. Ihe bareness usually found in wool stores, lias been completely lost, and in its place is found multi-coloured streamers, flags, and oilier forms of decoration. It is said that the bunting is* equal to a length of three miles. Exceptionally displayed lighting further' enhances the. decorative scheme, and the whole reflects great credit on the men who have laboured to perfect tins essential part of the Olympia. . . It is oiten said that the Olympia is held purely to the various makes of automobiles and everything connected with the trade. The Olympia, however, is run also to demonstrate to the public what a remarkable industry tho automobile trade m. There will bo experts iu attendance at each bay to educate the public in the various parts of the car, and to show the remarkable improvements effected | during recent years. It will be a tr~at for anyone with a desire to further their knowledge to visit the Olympia. The triumphs of engineering will bo revealed in all makes and conditions of cars, trucks, motorcycles, and the like, and it is safe to say that the public will be amazed at the progress made since the first car was turned oub. Eights, sixes and fours are there in great variety, and they are standard 'products of The factories from which they come. The various garages will bo well represene?! by their latest models, and the spirit of friendly rivalry promises to be a. feature of tho show. Tho Olympia is not a place to sell cars altogether; it is held for the purpose of creating interest amongst tho public in. the great motor-car industry. The Olympia will be officially opened in the evening, at 8 o’clock, by tho Deputy-Mayor (Mr A. L. Gee). Tho president of the South Canterbury Motor Garage Proprietors’ Association (Mr C. W. Wood), will preside, and included in the speakers will be Mr B. L. Blodorn (president South Canterbury Chamber of Commerce), and Mr N. M. Orbell (president South Canterbury Automobile Association!. A first-class orchestra will be in attendance and popular music will be discoursed. Supper will be obtainable at the usual charge. What promises to be one of the features of the Olympia this year is the jtug-'of-war carnival. This is under the management of the Timaru Rowing Club, who _ have successfully conducted several similar events in connection with bazaars and carnivals in Timaru. The entries received liavo been very encouraging, and will ensure first-class competition. Special staging has been erected, and the public will be able to obtain an unobstructed view of the contests.

All the public liavo to do is follow the coloured lights in Strathallan Street, and they will guide them to a show well worth visiting
